We Offer BOTOX®

for Therapeutic and Cosmetic Treatment

For over 15 years, BOTOX® Cosmetic has been widely used for skin rejuvenation and is one of the most common, minimally invasive procedures performed nationwide. The dentists at Mississippi Dental Center can administer BOTOX® injections to address cosmetic concerns, as well as serve as therapeutic treatment for problems such as temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder and bruxism. Our doctors have advanced knowledge of facial anatomy and are specially trained to administer BOTOX® treatments at our Jackson, MS, office.

How Do BOTOX® Injections Work?

BOTOX® is a diluted, refined form of botulinum toxin, a purified protein that is used to affect nerve transmission in the muscles. When nerve endings in the facial muscles are injected with BOTOX®, the muscles can no longer contract and spasm.

Our team's specialized training and expertise allows us to effectively provide you with both the aesthetic and therapeutic benefits of BOTOX®.

This lack of movement decreases the appearance and occurrence of wrinkles for a temporary period, typically lasting three to four months until treatment is re-administered.

BOTOX® Cosmetic helps reduce signs of aging on the face

Aesthetic Benefits of BOTOX®

One of the most common uses of BOTOX® injections is for cosmetic treatments to reduce the signs of aging on the face. Our doctors can administer this medication to reduce the appearance of:

  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Eye wrinkles
  • Smile lines
  • Nose lines
  • Dimples in the chin
  • Downturned smile

In a single, non-surgical treatment, patients can enjoy a rejuvenated, more alert appearance.

Therapeutic Benefits of BOTOX®

In addition to cosmetic applications, BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to treat a variety of health issues, including TMJ disorder (TMD) and bruxism. The temporomandibular joints are located on the sides of your head and are instrumental when speaking, chewing, and swallowing. Patients suffering from TMD and bruxism tend to grind their teeth and overwork their joints. This movement can cause issues such as soreness, discomfort, and headaches.

BOTOX® injections can freeze the muscles surrounding the TMJ and act as a muscle relaxer to help reduce the contractions that cause discomfort. Once the muscles are treated, they are unable to engage in the unconscious movement brought on by TMJ disorders, bruxism, and stress. In most cases, patients can enjoy the therapeutic benefits immediately following treatment.

Why Choose Our Practice?

Our team has completed specialized training in order to provide BOTOX® service. Although receiving BOTOX® from your dentist may seem like a new concept, dentists are experts in facial and maxillofacial anatomy and understand these movements and how they affect underlying tissue. This expertise allows us to effectively treat the appropriate areas and provide you with both the aesthetic and therapeutic benefits of BOTOX®.

What to Expect during Treatment

During your initial consultation, we will discuss your cosmetic or therapeutic concerns and goals to help determine your treatment areas. BOTOX® injections typically take about 30 minutes, but can be shorter or longer depending on the treatment areas. Although it is considered a non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment, BOTOX® Cosmetic can cause mild discomfort since it is delivered by injections. You should expect to experience a prick or sting while treatment is administered.

If you are nervous or concerned, we can apply a topical numbing cream or a cold pack to reduce the sensation. A small percentage of patients experience side effects such headaches, nausea, redness, or bruising, but these are temporary and typically very mild. Cosmetic patients can expect to see reduced wrinkles within two days following treatment, while patients receiving therapeutic BOTOX® injections can experience relief from their symptoms almost immediately after their appointment.
